Why you asked- It is extremely important to note that the Hydrostrip 500 Series consists of new and patented technology and is not based on the three traditional and evolved stripping technologies of:
methylene chloride,
caustics or
N-Methyl,Pyrrolidone (NMP).
The current Hydrostrip 500 Series, namely 501, 502, 503, 504 (and others will be made available in the near future) are water based and environmentally friendly. All the constituents/products of the Hydrostrip Series are 100% biodegradable in water and soil. In contrast, other environmentally friendly paint stripper systems are invariably less biodegradable and much less effective in removing paints and coatings. The Hydrostrip 500 Series products are available from ICI Devoe in 1 gallon, 5 gallon and 55 gallon drums and it is anticipated that they will soon be available in aerosol cans.
Mr. Ron Graham, of ICI Devoe in Edmonton, Alberta has been conducting research with different Hydrostrip 500 Series products to test how well they work on generically different and high performance coatings. The results are tremendously encouraging
For the record, it should be recognized that Hydrostrip 500 Series products can readily remove all brands of antifouling paint and many external paint systems including the non-skid coatings on aircraft carrier decks. Please note that ICI Devoe does not sell coatings to the marine sector at this time.
Other technical aspects are of great interest. For instance, the technology utilized in Hydrostrip 502 conforms to the Boeing D6-17487 Revision weight loss requirements when tested on the following metal alloys:
In summary, the Hydrostrip 500 Series Coating Removal Alternative offers a revolutionary and patented technology to remove a variety of coatings from all sorts of substrates in almost every industrial environment conceivable. The continued development of highly specialized coatings along with changing views on health, safety and pollution will ensure the future growth of specialized coating removers, that offer a safe and economic means to remove existing coating systems.

Special thanks to Ron Graham (for his research and Table 4) and Ron Garrett for input with this newsletter.
Testing with other products is ongoing and the list above is continuously being updated by Ron Graham. For further details and test results please contact Ron Graham, ICI Devoe Coatings Edmonton, Alberta tel: 403-454-4900, fax: 403-454-5245.
After 10 years of assessing the hazards of methylene chloride, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has determined that the current exposure limits still allow a significant health risk to employees (methylene chloride is considered to be a carcinogen). As a chlorinated agent, methylene chloride is also considered as one of the main ozone depleting agents. So what can be used as a viable alternative? The answer is the Hydrostrip 500 Series.
