It was Mitsubishi who ULBI made the battery for. HP was in on the laptop design, also. I haven't heard any more news about the laptop product after the original 'jump-the-gun" announcement where ULBI described their effort in the project as the "enabling" technology for the superthin laptop (3/4"). Then, there was that report from a computer magazine that the sample ULBI battery shorted out during a trade show and burned the bottom of the keyboard. Then an HP manager was quoted as inferring that the Li Poly battery technology wasn't really proven yet, followed by ULBI refuting that they had had any problems. Yet, no volume battery production seems to be coming from ULBI yet.

Is it any wonder that the market is taking all this with a little skepticism?

What the market is now unwilling to take much risk on (the reality of Li Poly batteries), I personally am taking a risk on. My only fiduciary obligation is to myself, I have confidence in the VLNC team, and I've always had a penchant for battery powered gizmo's (other than sex toys, for those with prurient interests). In fact, every living creature is portably chemically powered. (How would you ever wind up a bumblebee?)
