Steve,

I'll admit that mentioning ORCL at $8 in '91 was a little extreme, but it wasn't that far off. ORCL needed a cash infusion from Fujitsu to stay afloat and there were definite problems with getting system 5 out the door (and IBM's DB2 was supposed to be competitive, ha, ha).

Borland may be a pissant company at this point, but they do have quality products and if MSFT gets distracted with NSCP and IBM, then maybe, just maybe BORL will have a chance to grow and blossom. Remember Internet/Intranet tool sets will be in the greatest demand and BORL has a great set of tools addressing this market, with more to come. If they could only start a system engineering business the way ORCL did and CSC and EDS has, then BORL would become a home run. I guess BORL couldn't afford the likes of Mr. Gerstner, but maybe this guy still has enough gas in him to put BORL in the right direction.

Food for thought.

Norm
