Jim: There is little question that the latest Brinkerless weekend,
during a perceived tense and crucial time for the stock market,
unsettled more than a few MoneyTalk listeners and, dare I say
it, may have struck a discordant note or two amongst some
Brinker devotees. Certainly, this is fair testimony to the impor-
tance of Brinker's uncanny insights into the machinations of the
markets, that a two day absence should apparently so rile and
offset some of his followers, especially his non-subscribing radio
folk, who, in the midst of parlous and opaque times in the market,
may find themselves at once lost in the dark without Brinker's
guiding, reassuring, and steady voice, Brinker's declared ne-
cessity for rest and relaxation notwithstanding.

Nevertheless, to be quite honest, Jim, there are some things about
your critique that ring somewhat hollow. On the one hand, you
complain rather bitterly that Brinker has taken time off during
avowedly parlous times in this market. On the other hand, you
take pains in casting yourself as an independent thinker. To wit,
"For me, and many like me, we can think for ourselves, and
would appreciate his opinion to steady us in the face of con-
flicting information."

If you truly think for yourself and follow your own market pre-
scriptions, Brinker's absences seemingly should make little dif-
ference to you one way or the other and certainly could not be
of sufficient import to provoke the ire and angst you have gone
out of your way to express publicly here.

Further, you write, "It is BB's total lack of concern for his aud-
ience that irritates the most." Your altruistic concern for Brinker's
radio audience is duly noted, but hard to swallow, given your a-
vowed downplay of Brinker and his role in your overall investment
strategem.

Therefore, in sum, I am led to think that either Brinker plays a
greater role in your investment decisions than you are willing to
let on here or that your supposed concern for Brinker's audience
is merely a Trojan horse and a vehicle for Brinker bashing.
