You totally ignored the point I was making about essentially substituting this year's expensed R&D for the sum of the capitalized pieces of prior years' of R&D. That effectively creates the same cash flow effect as capitalizing every year. Of course, it assumes we're talking about a REAL company, LIKE Hyperion, that has a growing R&D budget driven by growing sales. Name a REAL company that spends $10m in R&D one year and scales back to $1m thereafter???? Maybe they have them in Reggieville, but not on the NYSE.

But I won't argue that you did put that argument (and the rest of us) to bed.
