"Now, if you tell me you also used to go into the woods and pick blackberries with your hound dogs, I might just scream!"

Absolutely! You mean you didn't? I also would sneak out to the nearby farm pond to take a swim and go fishing when the mean old farmer (at least in my childhood mind!) wasn't looking, jump from the barn loft into the piles of hay, catch big old bull frogs and crayfish in the stream that ran through the woods, and wake up in the early morning to spend hours on end with my dogs wandering deep into the forest exploring new discoveries like abandoned farm houses and old homesteads.

Five years ago I moved from suburban Maryland to the country in Virginia and built a large house to provide the same opportunities to my three daughters. I now live on a couple of acres with a stream that runs back to a beaver pond and we are surrounded by dear, wild turkey and occasional foxes. (In fact, my office is on the third floor of my house where I can look out a huge picture window onto the surrounding woods and fields.) However, I quickly learned that my girls have no interest in exploring the surrounding countryside. They would rather spend their time talking to friends on the phone! (For most guys, this is hard to understand!) So I had a large in ground pool built last year, and at least that seems to get them outside.

Oh well, live and learn! At least I like it here.
