Here's a question: Who is the leading supplier for the global market for Gigabit Ethernet Layer 3 Switches? Cisco's website has extensive documentation on Gigabit Ethernet technology and 1998 is their target year of standardization and availability. Looking at the "Gigabit Alliance Team formed in 1996" Cisco seems the only dominant networking player left.
