4) Do you think Bush lied when he said "No new taxes?". I don't. It may be semantical but I think its an important language issue.

dale: A lie is only a lie when a person makes a statement he/she knows to be false. The only way Bush could have lied when he said "No new taxes" is if he knew he intended to raise taxes. He obviously intended not to raise taxes when he said it. Remember, though, that the Bush tax increase was due to the Democrats pressuring him to sign the tax bill with the agreement that they, the Democratically controlled houses, would decrease spending. Needless to say only one of the parties kept to their part of the bargain and then turned around and used the subsequent tax increase to bash Bush during the next election saying he misled the people. Talk about having your cake and eating it too. Bush walked right into the trap set by the Democrats and then refused to passionately defend himself against the outright lies of the Dems who misspoke and misrepresented the whole scenario.
