TOKYO -(Dow Jones)- Japan's crude oil imports increased 0.8% in July 1998 from a year earlier to 21.93 million kiloliters, or 4.6 million barrels a day, officials at the Ministry of International Trade and Industry said Wednesday. The United Arab Emirates was Japan's main crude source in July, supplying 6.15 million kL, or 1.29 million b/d, 5% more than in July 1997. The second-largest supplier that month was Saudi Arabia, at 4.89 million kL, or 1.03 million b/d, up 23.1% from a year before. Qatar was third, shipping 2.22 million kL, or 465,409 b/d, up 63.8%, and Iran sold 2.10 million kL, or 440,252 b/d, down 5.6% from the corresponding month of 1997, the officials said. The processing of crude oil at Japanese refineries rose 0.7% in July from a year before to 20.74 million kL, or 4.35 million b/d, the ministry officials said.
