Hal, I haven't asked but I'm sure Ampex is aware of the threat.

High capacity solid-state type recorders are still exceedingly expensive, mainly due to the high cost of DRAM. But as DRAM prices fall and availability increases, solid-state becomes increasingly more affordable.
I believe this competition will take some market share away from the DCR short term but as long as Ampex can keep increasing capacity with current generation recorders they will minimize the loss.
