Frank,
Just my humble opinion.
I cut my teeth on Pagemaker 1.0, then later switched to Xpress at version 2.0 in late 1988. Still use Xpress (4.03).
That said, Adobe is a better, more complete provider of applications for the graphics professional - P-Maker, Illustrator and PhotoShop. I upgrade each time Adobe comes out with a new release of Pagemaker, because, IMO, the day will come that Pagemaker will once again be at parity with Xpress. When, I don't know. When it finally takes place (and the graphics industry buys into it) I wouldn't want to be in Fred Efrehami's(sic?) shoes. He is the Chairman of Quark. I'm sure that you're aware of Quark's unsuccessful foray in to image editing software - and its failure. And, if you use the latest and greatest version of Xpress, you're aware of the inclusion of bezier tools ( a very clumsy attempt at including Illustrator- like capabilities).
My point: Quark, in trying a hostile (or even friendly) takeover seems to be a case of the tail trying to wag the dog. I really don't think it will happen.
