Skip,

I've never owned a cell phone but think a Q G* phone will be my first. My home is NYC where there's a payphone on every block so why buy a cellphone?I also spend ALOT of time in the West, where I am right now, in the great outdoors. G* will provide me with the ability to reach help no matter where I go, whether it's on my backcountry skis during the winter or on some dirt road 100 miles from the nearest highway (cell site). 700$ seems cheap for this kind of insurance.
When data becomes available I'll be able to take my family to Alaska for the summer without being disconnected from SI :).

It's true I won't use the phone much so from G* perspective I won't be the ideal user, but from Q's point of view that's just fine. I think demand in the US might be much stronger than anticipated at that the initial 200-300,000 phones will disappear in a juffy. I wish I new more about how Airtouch roaming pricing will be as one crosses from one mode ie sat/cdma/analog to another.
