Thanks for the post, John. I make it a point never to predict the market or the price of a stock, because the markets are stochastic in nature. What is really peculiar about that statement is the fact that TAers use "stochastics" but have no idea of what the term implies. That's probably why I love to make fun of those guys. Lots of arcane mumbo-jumbo and no substance. I sure had fun with Eddie Kim with "overbought" and "oversold".

Instead, I focus my attention on the underlying business. My assumption is that given the information available through "analysts", all stocks are more or less properly valued by the market. But so many analysts do not do their homework, so you can find nuggets of misinformation which can lead to outrageous profits. Such is the case with Dell.

But even if all of the information is out there, you can profit by simply riding the growth curves out. Suppose a company is expected to grow at 15% for the foreseeable future, then all other things being equal, the stock should appreciate at 15% per annum. I think this is the essence of successful investing.
