If the shares ever regain value, as long as you treated it as a "Worthless" disposal, I believe, you can treat it as a gain again should it come back, if you restart its basis at 0 and use a transaction date the same as when you declared it worthless. I think all you have to do to protect yourself is just clip a copy of the price quote on the stock on that date into your records.
