I couldn't disagree with you more. I have been in the market for a new computer and have visited the Dell, Compaq, Gateway, and Apple sites. By far and I stress by far, the Compaq site is the best and clearest to use. In addition, I found that they were the most competitive for the type of computer I was looking for.

After much consideration however, I went with the best computer, the Apple G3. Paid too much, though.
