It may have been this thread that the topic of daily volume came up. Ian had some things to say about it and I think his/our conclusion was that because of accounting measures (buyer and seller each counting for 100 shares for a single trade) and the way MMakers work, that the daily volume for a NASDAQ stock is twice the amount of the actual shares that changed hands.

Are we all agreed on this as a fact?
