"Stop Piloting, Start Rolling Out, Expert Tells U.S. Banks"
"U.S. financial institutions and other card issuers are more likely to opt for full-fledged stored-value smart card program rollouts from now on, rather than limited pilots, says Henry Dreifus, CEO of consultancy Dreifus Associates Ltd., Longwood, Fla. "There's very little value left in piloting. The days of the pilot are dead," he says, because issuers no longer want to experiment with the technology. Rather, he says, they want to put it to practical use. Dreifus says the greatest activity in the United States will come with cards that can be used for more than one application. He notes that applications such as pay TV authorization account for the greatest number of smart cards in use today in the United States, yet receive the least public attention."
