In response to enquiries about the environmental impact of oil shale, I would suggest people have a look at the Greenpeace web page regarding oil shale in Queensland:

greenpeace.org.au

Greenpeace is opposed the development of new oil reserves (see: greenpeace.org and is calling for companies to invest time and money into clean sources of energy (e.g. check out BP's web site: bp.com).
