Hello Jumpin John :-)
The problem with Literal interpretation(from my point of view) is that you cant get agreement. Just look at this thread! We have people for no literal interpretation, some literal interpretation, and absolute literal interpretation. All intelligent people, with well thought out and rational explanations for their opinions. Everyone believes that they are right, but of course not everyone can be.
What happens to the people who are wrong? Good people with the highest of intentions? Are they to be eternally tortured with fire and brimstone because they came to a reasonable, but wrong, conclusion? Even though their intentions were of the highest order? I fail to understand that.
I would be happy to give you my opinion on Isiah 53, if you print it out., as long as you respect my right to not come to the same conclusions as you do. Also, please realize that I will be coming from a perspective that does not use literal translation as a baseline. that will change our interpretations from the start. As long as we realize that from the outset, we will be able to have a conversation that is respectful of each others opinions.
