Larry,

Other than a few U.S. banks that invested in Russia, this is purely a psychological affair and I don't see why it would have any effect on the U.S. economy. The U.S. economy is very strong, which is why the value of the dollar is rising against most foreign currencies. If the U.S. goes into a recession because of what's happening in Russia, it will be caused by emotion and not anything fundamental.

That's my take on "the effect on the world economy is totally unknown".
