Dell just keeps hammering away at the skeptics that think or thought that the cheapie was going to derail this train...

The way Compaq and other companies go on and on about the cheap , sub-$1000, PCs it reminds me of another marketing phenomena in central Texas back in the '70s. It seemed that one of the beer companies decided that everyone was going to want little bitty cans of beer, about a double shot glass. Every national brewery thought they also needed to market these itty bitty beers only there were state regulations on bottling, and the local brewers didn't want to set up a competing bottling line and resisted changes in the regulations. Well the big national chains bought up all the breweries in Texas, save one, gave them all the same recipe and started pumping out little itty bitty cans with identical recipes. Well in conclusion, the most popular beer is now the one hold out (Shiner) which still sells most of its product in the format people wanted all along.
TP (who can't drink as many Shiners as he used to anymore)
