[Advanced Radio Telecom Appoints Thomas Boyhan Executive Vice President, Sales]

Seattle/Bellevue, WA-August 27, 1998--Advanced Radio Telecom [NASDAQ:ARTT] announced today that effective September 1, 1998, Thomas Boyhan will become Executive Vice President of Sales for ART, a provider of broadband "first mile" Internet and communications services to off-fiber businesses. Boyhan was most recently Senior Vice President - National Account Sales for Williams Communications' Solutions, a national $1.3 billion systems integration company, 70 percent owned by Williams Communications Group, Inc.

"I am extremely pleased that Tom Boyhan is joining ART to build and lead our national direct sales organization prior to the launch of our commercial service in Seattle, Portland and Phoenix," said Bill Maxwell, ART President and COO. "He is an accomplished sales executive with many years of experience in the communications industry, and he is the ideal person to oversee the growth of ART's sales effort."

Tom Boyhan brings over 25 years of telecommunications experience to his position at ART. Previously Boyhan was senior vice president of national accounts at Williams Communications Solutions. Prior to Williams, Boyhan served as vice president, global accounts for WilTel. Boyhan joined WilTel in 1994 after the company acquired the out-of-region customer premise equipment business of Bell South Communications, where Boyhan was director of sales for Bell South's eastern U. S. region.

Boyhan attended East Carolina University and is a past board member for the North American Telecommunications Association.
