Let's stay away from giving the kid financial advice in this forum.

You are assuming that the S&P is the ultimate benchmark from which to base one's returns. For all we know, the S&P may underperform the Russell 2000 from here to 2010.

I do not necessarily agree with that, but basing your advice on the extrapolation of a trend may not always "work."

I do applaud your choice of Vanguard, however. Most other Large Cap Growth Mutual Funds are merely closet indexes with egregious fees and mentally challenged PM's.
