In my previous post, I pointed out that there is a huge disparity between the rich and not rich classes.

I was in Moscow in July of 1996. At that time, it was common to see young folks selling Time Shares in front of the GUM for places like Ibiza, Gran Canaria, Riviera. The newspapers were full of advertisements for property and homes on the Riviera, Italy, etc. That was well before the IMF bailout.

The Russian mafia has unbelievable wealth. They had it well before the IMF came along, though I feel certain that they are getting significant portions of any IMF monies as well. It is virtually impossible to do business in Russia without the mafia.
