Thanks, that's an interesting report.

It's "LuxSonor" (http://www.luxsonor.com/Vcd.html), but otherwise, that sounds believable. Any chance he heard how the different samples compare?

This techweb.com states: '"we [C-Cube] are going to make sure that CVD [the C-Cube standard for high-res-vcd] will be compatible" with the government-promoted SVD format, he[Andaleon director of strategic content at C-Cube] said.'
Also, the LuxSonor hardware has been seen decoding video and audio from a CVD disc.

On the C-Cube thread John Rieman recently gave a good summary of the history behind this spec.
