OPS--it's an interesting statistic. Thomas Boswell, the sports writer, has long loved the RRF(runs responsible for) stat--RBIs + Runs -HR or something like that. This OPS is kind of like a Bases Responsible For Percentage, but it has overlap between the statistics.

One more thing on McGwire. When he was at 53 HR/130 games, needing 9 HR in 32 games, I looked at all of his 32 game moving HR totals for the year(starting with game 1 thru 32, 2 thru 33, and so on up to 99 thru 130). In those 99 32 game sets, he hit 9 HR or more in 95 of those 32 game sets. Max was 19, min was 7, average was 12.8.
Looks like he is in good shape for 62+.
