John, I guess we should agree to disagree. Obviously, I think that nonvolatile memory developments which will make this technology broadly competitive are more long term than you do. Tell you what, you keep me informed of things happening on the nonvolatile memory front, and I will keep you and the others on this thread informed of developments in removable disk storage technology as I find out about them.

BTW, I believe that the 4 GB on the AltaVista server for storing URL descriptions for searches are plain old DRAM. Much, much cheaper than flash memory. What do you think that the database is backed up onto? I bet it's a TAPE (talk about outmoded).
