No, you're wrong CMon. If I'm short 2000 shares of SRCM, the position is established. If I then go long, it is an outright purchase, not a buy-to-cover. What I do with that long position is unconnected to the already-established short position. Net short or net long is not related to upticks. I don't need an uptick to sell my long position. The only reason I need an uptick is to increase the short position, which is a different proposition than the one being discussed here.
