John: Pick up a copy of last weeks Barrons. They stated this was a defense against speculators expecting a devaluation and shorting the market. The Government is trying to drive up prices to force them to cover. This id similar to what Ron discussed. By increasing interest rates (the interbank rate so the banks don't absorb the spread differencial) their will be increased demand for the currency to also shake out currency speculators. jmt
