Yes, you're right. A legitimate reason for asserting that someone is "in denial" would be intentionally to patronize, or make a diagnostic sort of remark about, that person.

See how I said "that person" instead of "him or her?" What is the consensus here about that infernal gender-pronoun cumbersomeness? And did that question mark after "him or her" really have to go inside the quote? I have the vague impression that Brits put punctuation outside the quotes more than we Americans do, is that inaccurate?; and I don't like it in there, I only put it there out of fear of you.

EDIT: In my 15 minute window, I clicked on your name, and glancing down your first lines, came across this post, containing the construction "I love when."

I say "I love when" sometimes myself, because it seems comical to me; were you using it for mild comic effect, or do you disagree that the correct construction is "I love it when...."?

(I know where that question mark is! Is it so wrong?)
