I seem to remember that aspartame breaks down into formaldahyde??? I think that when it was first under scrutiny, this was a big "topic"??? It was a long time ago, and I am not 100% certain, but I believe I am correct about this. I don't know how important the issue still is, but I only use sweetener for ice tea. I decided that I wouldn't take a chance in case there was something to be concerned about. Having one less thing to worry about never hurt anybody, I figure.
