I think the full extent of the decision was not realized by the idiot who wrote that fortune article.

If Intel and Microsoft were to engage in a "fight" there would be NO WINNERS, and could be a DISASTER for Intel's vision of a BILLION CONNECTED COMPUTERS. Instead Intel, IMO CHOSE to back off and focus on other growth areas.
