Nikkei English News via NewsEdge Corporation : TOKYO (Nikkei)--Sven-
Christer Nilsson, president of Telefonaktiebolaget L M Ericsson, said his
company will continue negotiations with Qualcomm Inc., which is refusing to
license its technology for advanced mobile phones. It should be possible
to reach some form of agreement, the head of the major Swedish telecom
equipment maker said here on Thursday.

Qualcomm, the proprietor of the CDMA mobile phone format, had earlier
told Japanese and European companies that it won't license its technology
unless they meet conditions set by the U.S. firm. Japanese and European
firms are pushing their own CDMA format, called wide-band CDMA, as a new
global mobile phone standard.

Ericsson is ready to reward Qualcomm for its contribution in developing
the CDMA technology and make some kind of compromise, said Nilsson.
