JF, there appear to be many other companies with related products, there is no question about that. Open Text just claims to have the best solution and best technology for what they do. Clearly there are many news stories about Lotus, and Netscape, Novell, Compaq, etc...trying to hop on the bandwagon in this year of the intranet. And there aren't a lot of stories about Open Text.
I see five or six releases a day because one of my direct e-mail services has a heading dedicated to the intranet.
I am simply convinced that Open Text has an impressive technology which will be adopted by many large companies. As we have seen they have already impressed Siemens, Ford, Bell Canada, etc.
So don't be worried as everyone tries to work the word "intranet" into their release (I'm not claiming the Cisco news isn't interesting). The largest Canadian ISP, istar, a pretty crummy company in my view with delusions of grandeur, is blabbing about their imminent move into the intranet market.
Do your homework, and believe in Open Text management.
(P.S. What IS the significance of the Cisco news in your opinion?) |
