I buy a PUT option on an equity. The market maker for that options takes the risk. Usually by shorting the equity. It's his job to handle the risk not mine. I buy mutiple options, and my risk is the invested capital... same as in any stock.
NOW Prove to me that derivative trader causes volatility?
Or that what they do, is a negative in the market place.
Investments are a zero sum game.
Maybe you want to outlaw derivatives, and short seller, Banker acceptance note?
Bet you can't. BUT I shall go to the library, and get the book out that stated that during 1987 market crash, it was Option covering that prevented the total collaspse, as everyone precieved the option market makers purchases against call options as a rally. Think the book was called the 'crash of 87'
PS: My comment was about the US FED lieing about there data. Go back and see how many times they revised data downward. I could care less about Clinton, Cretien, and every other politician.
