Ian: The facts are that when economies slow down, investment slows. As an extreme example, take a look at the charts during the 1982 recession The recent sell-off by the market represents sentiment based on past experiences. The current sentiment is that the world Economy is slowing and Exporters might face declining revenues. If this is not the case, I would like to know your appreciation.

As stated in an earlier post, NN has never outperformed the S&P on a long term basis. So long term holdings is not an issue. NN now trades on a Q by Q basis. If you see the chart you will see it has now started falling every Q post earnings. In brief buy after the news , sell on the news.It is an old cliche.

The trading pattern indicates more and more Investors are in for the short haul( a few weeks). I have nothing against that. Once you realise that, one lowers one expectation regarding long term heights.

The current sentiment is negative and it has been precipitated by the global financial crisis. The sell off is contrary to your belief that the U.S is isolated from the economies of the global Village.
