A decree from Beijing's Copyright Administration now prohibits people from carrying video cameras in cinemas.

Video compact discs made from a copy shot in a local cinema have become an growing part of the pirated VCD business, local observers say, and more than 20 percent of the VCDs sold at local market are found to be pirated products.

Liu Dongwei, vice director of the Copyright Administration, says that the tougher measure is being enforced after a recent legal case has been solved against infringement upon copyrights. Earlier, 10 film studios brought a suit against the Tiandu Copyright Agency, which had granted copyrights to dealers without permission of the owners. The prosecutors won the case and were compensated for.
