Celerity Systems Announces Nortel (Northern
Telecom) Set Top Purchase

KNOXVILLE, Tenn., Aug. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Celerity Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: CLRT - news) announced today that Nortel
(Northern Telecom) (NYSE: NT - news; TSE: NTL - news) has purchased a limited quantity of Celerity's new T 6000 digital
set top boxes for evaluation in its laboratory, and for deployment in trials for its current customers during the fourth quarter of
1998 and early 1999. This selection follows a recent test of Celerity's products in Nortel's laboratories, in which the products
proved to be highly compatible.

''Nortel is an ideal company for us to work with,'' said Ken Van Meter, president and CEO of Celerity. ''They have a full
range of advanced network products that integrate smoothly with our own products, especially our T 6000 digital set top box,
and Nortel is one of the premier network companies in the world.''

''Our strategy in developing the T 6000 has been to go beyond the obvious video-on-demand and electronic commerce
opportunities, reaching into the Internet, energy management, security and health care monitoring, as well as integrating analog
and digital cable tuning to drive profitability,'' Van Meter added. ''Nortel understands and shares this strategy for its broadband
networks, which is why they have chosen the more robust technology in our T 6000 to ensure that, together, we are delivering
what the industry actually needs to derive the maximum revenues possible from interactive broadband deployments. Every home
represents a market opportunity, and the innovative companies will use these technologies to capture those markets.''

Celerity is a leading worldwide provider of interactive video hardware, software, and services, with fourteen deployments
around the world. Through strategic relationships with companies including Minerva and CEI, they also offer end-to-end
interactive systems, including services such as system integration, encoding, and digital authoring.
