Did you see Yeltsin on TV? Isn't he pathetic? A living symbol of what ails that country and its economy. Hard to believe that the Russians traded him for Gorbachev. Soviet communism is a proven loser, but I'm not ready to say that capitalism is the greatest system ever created. Capitalism comes in various colors, as does socialism. American capitalism of the present day hue is dimmed by an overabundance of greed and neglect of the basic needs of the less fortunate in our society. We should not be tolerating homelessness, abandoning the social safety net, continuing to pollute our environment and putting in place ever more draconian police-state measures. So much for that. As for the market, Asian investors, who were in large part responsible for feeding our raging bull, have lost 80% of their capital, at least as measured by their market indexes. Where will the money come from to keep the bull alive?
