I worked in the nuclear industry for 15 years. Two weeks ago, I chaired an industry Y2k conference (and no, I didn't get paid for it) and sat on a panel with Jerry Wermeil of NRC (the bloke heading up NRC's effort). In May, I testified before Congress with Hugh Thompson of NRC. I respect the effort that the industry as a whole is putting into Y2k, but my sense is that they *still* aren't correctly reading the political tea leaves and understand the enormous pressure that GAO and congress is placing on NRC to deal with this issue. With respect to the client I was with, I don't provide details on specific clients I work with.

Face value?? It was from the guy that discovered the problem, and cleared through their PR department, and I've had phone conversations with Mr. Ito. Yes, I have had quite a few subsequent conversations with them, the most recent a few weeks back with Fred Kobashikawa. They are going to provide a followup to the story (presumably after they clear it with their lawyers).
