Terrence---I agree. The Hebrew civilization was indeed materially inferior to the ancient Greek, Roman, Eyptians. Solomon's Temple and Solomon's navy indicate that the ancient Hebrews were capaable of great architecture and technical advancement.
So, the questions is; why didn't the ancient Hebrews create an equal or greater civilization than the other ancients.
The answer is simple. The essence of the ancient Hebrew civilization was spiritual and not material. The ancient Hebrew civilization focused on virtue and character instead of pride and self agrandizement.
The engine that drove the ancient Hebrew civilization was an awareness of God and a desire to fellowship with God.
The engine that drove the ancient Greek, Roman, etc. civilizations was a desire to exercise the fullness of pride and self centerdness.

In a man's last hour on this earth, he is no longer concerned with his ego and his great material works. He comes to the full awareness of his spirituality and his mortaility.
The superiority of the ancient Hebrew is clear. Because of their relationship to God through His covenant, they lived a life as if they were on their death bed.
The essence of existence--fellowship with God--was always first. It is true that the ancient Hebrews frequently deviated from their calling and many never understood. But, it is also true that God gave each generation of ancient Hebtrews prophets to continuously focuse the nations vision on the coventant.

The essence of the Hebrew nation and covenant with to bring forth He that would resotre wholeness to mankind and permit an eternal fellowship with God the Father.
The ancient Hebrew nation fulfilled her mission and brought forth Jesus Christ as the Son of God and the Reconciler of mankind to God.
The ancient Hebrews who walked in the Spirit and the covenant of Abraham rejoiced when they saw Christ.Hundreds of thousand of these Hebrews accepted Christ and continued the ancient Hebrew nation in the Spirit and the blood of kChrist.
Like athe ancient Hebrews, the true Christians today are considered primitive compared to the pagan world of science and art.

The Christians today, like their ancient forbears--the Hebrews, are also condired primitive and inferior.
Things like being born-again, being healed by the Spirit of God, being convinced of the inspiration of the Word of God, are symbolic of these modern Hebrews--the Christians.

By beginning with the certitudes in the Word of God, these modern Hebrews can quickly ascertain the essence of existence without spending a life time trying to convince other poor deceived humans of how important and enlightended they really are.

The simplicity of it all is Jesus Christ crucified for our sins that we may become the sons of God.
The profound simplicity of the Cross becomes our knowledge and our wisdom.
The Holy Spirit living in our hearts becomes our certitude of correctness.
Fellowship with the creator as our dad, gives us a peace that surpasses understanding.

Terrence Bergh, I say to you that the peace and love and fellowship of God is available to you.
Do not be so irrational as not to seek the treasures that are available to you.

Next time you sue your rational mind to figure out some deep so called "truth', try comparing to what Jesus Christ offers you.
You will find that only Jesus can give you what you are truly seeking.
All true wisdom and knowledge is in Christ--BE RATIONAL AND COME AND DIP YOUR COUP.

Emile
