some of the shorts cover in type 2(margin account), by doing
that you are locking your profits and neutralizing your position.(5% requirement as far as capital)
once the stock bounces back the short will be restablished through
the type 2 account, you don't need an uptick and you don't
have to borrow the stock again. Its seems to me that this was
part of the strategy that the shorts used,by doing that you avoid
the uptick rule, basically that rule is worthless, thats true for any stock either on nyse or nasdaq.
So be careful how you buy this if you decide to catch a bounce.
imho from here on we need slow accumillation of new shareholders
that will be buying in cash accounts. The only way to really
squeez the shorts is to move the stock to a cash account, if you
buy on margin you are hurting your holdings from the start, maybe this is fantasy, but this is the simple way that the shorts can be pressured..the other is better revenues,margins and earnings...
