Of the recent news stories, I find this most unsettling:

mg.co.za

It appears that wealthy Mobutists are alive, well (physically anyway), and interested in a return. I don't believe that the Congolese people will ever welcome them back, but they can cause another war in the future. The involvement of Executive Outcomes is also worrying. Why can't South Africa throw EO out? How can a supposed democracy allow such a company to operate on their territory? Time for a letter to the editor.

As you point out, we're lucky that Tenke appears to be in the safest part of the DRC, but UNITA may mess that up. I think Dos Santos may regret what he's doing. Each soldier, aircraft, and armored vehicle that he loses probably can not be replaced.

Regards, Gofer
