David, there is one way to preserve the trend lines or
any other memo on your MetaStock Chart. Here is
how I do it.

1. Use Downloader. Tools->Delete->Data, set your
directory and select all the securities. Then click
`Delete' button. Enter `01/01/80' on the Date field.
Check `After Date'. Then `OK' button.
2. Now use one of QP2 program called `qp_meta.exe'.
Click `Update existing directories' to update your
MetaStock directories.

This ways can keep all the trend lines and any text memo
on your charts. If you don't delete old data as described
in step 1, QP2 will only append new daily data to the existing
record. However, it's not uncommon to have incorrect quotes
and wrong spilt adjustment. These errors may be corrected
on QP2 database, but not on your physical MetaStock data.
That's the reason I do the above procedure on a weekly basis.

Hope this helps.

Clark

p.s. Make sure you have a backup before you do anything.
Otherwise, you have a very good chance to redraw all the
trend lines.
