I just got around to viewing a tape I made of CNBC yesterday. They interviewed somebody in the German market. He said that there was panic selling earlier, mostly in blue chips, and mostly by small retail investors. The catalyst was the Russian situation, and I guess if we were Germans living that close to Russia we might take the Russian news more seriously. I think a good bit of the SAP decline is related to that and the rest related to the fact that it has gone up so much and is big enough to be liquid. That's the kind of stock mutual fund managers need to sell to raise cash for redemptions, but it's also the first kind they buy back.
I had sold a few shares around 55, and started buying them back yesterday. SAP, like most stocks, is a captive of general poor market conditions.
