Scotsman, it all depends, IMHO, if Asia can stabilize and go back into a growth pattern. In the last year we have lost 2% in "potential" world economic growth, we may lose another 3% to 4% this year and if the Asian malaise stays with us, it could take longer. What we need is for the developing countries to once more go on the bandwagon of joining the "consumer society". I feel, but have no "proof" that Japan is going to do what is necessary to stimulate domestic demand and thus absorb some of the excess capacity in the rim. If Japan gets back on a growth mode by the second quarter of next year, than we will have a delay to about the end of 2002 for my old target (which was reduced to $85/share because of the delays in the 300 mm wafers, which I felt would be an engine of growth for WFR in 2001 and 2002, but already visible in 2001).
