Walter. I have enjoyed reading your very logical opinions here on SI.

I would add to your list that investors should try not to be emotional about their investments. But alas I have not been able to avoid this myself. The spirit of human nature comes thru whether in winning or losing.

I do disagree with some of your points, mainly these:

Never touch options
Never short

I have been buying puts against all of my long holdings during the past few weeks. And while this gets expensive it has insulated/saved me from free falling share prices. I buy insurance for my home, my car and my toys and so I buy insurance to play with my stocks. Joe average investor hasn't caught on to this principal yet because until now they could understand that their car could burn into the ground but did not realize their investment dollars could go up in smoke as well.

I disagree with Mr. Pink in one fundamental area and that is having a pure short position in a stock. It is far too dangerous to deploy this approach with either large, small, or scam stocks because these stocks can move against you in a big way. (Although Mr. Pink has excellent timing.) With many tech stocks jumping 200-400% in a short time, the method of profiting from their fall should not be the short sale of their stock but a purchase of put contracts (if available) in 1/3 increments, not to exceed more than a few percent of a portfolio. The most one can lose is their put contract funds while a short against the likes of Amazon could destroy one's account.
