On the Team Canada 1997 trade mission to Asia Pacific, MedcomSoft Inc. led a consortium of high-tech Ontario companies including Systems Xcellence Corp. of Milton and Healthware Technologies of North Bay. Together they will provide hardware, software and training so that almost 2000 hospitals in the Philippines can put medical records on line. The first phase of the project is worth an estimated $33 million, while the value of the second could top $200 million.

"The Team Canada mission enormously accelerated our work to move from just a conceptual working relationship ... to a real project," says MedcomSoft President and CEO Dr. Sami Aita. He foresees a beneficial ripple effect in this part of the world: "The government support will attract other governments to work with us," he notes. In fact, since the trade mission MedcomSoft has tendered proposals worth $1.5 million elsewhere in Asia.

MedcomSoft addresses the service enhancement and cost containment needs of the health care industry through the development of software solutions for wide-area community health information networks (CHIN). The company has developed a number of unique products and services that provide the data needed to implement broad-based service enhancement and cost reduction programs on an international scale. The MedcomSoft suite of services collects and organizes health care data in an analysable form, greatly simplifying the process of identifying areas for cost cutting and service enhancement.

MedcomSoft has a staff of 20.
