HTI and Team Canada in the Philippines

Vicky Paine-Mantha, Healthware Technologies'ÿ President and CEO, recently travelled with the Team Canada Trade Mission to the Philippines to initiate protocols with the government and healthcare providers in the Philippines.ÿ Healthware has teamed up with MedcomSoft of Toronto, and Systems Xcellence, of Milton to sign two major "protocols of intention" (documents committing the parties to move ahead with a certain project) in the Philippines recently.

The first phase of the PCHIN (Philippine Community Health Information Network) project, including deployment to 1,863 hospitals and all participating payers in the Philippines, is planned for this spring.ÿ "The second phase will include the connection of physicians, pharmacies, drug stores, radiologists and laboratories in addition to pharmaceutical distributors.ÿ The combination of technologies developed by the companies allow the key health care stakeholders to collect information more efficiently and effectively, thus allowing for better patient care and diagnosis," said Paine-Mantha.

The agreement was signed in the presence of Prime Minister Jean Chr‚tien and nine provincial premiers including Ontario Premier Mike Harris on the recent Canadian trade mission to the Far East.

The signing is the culmination of an 18-month joint feasibility study.ÿ "Things came together after a highly comprehensive and detailed survey of the health care information needs for all aspects of the health care sector in the Philippines," said Paine-Mantha.

The next step in the whole process is working out a detailed business plan for the Philippines project.
