Healthware Technologies in the news
healthware.on.ca

How does a modest-sized North Bay software development company from humble beginnings 10 years ago compete and succeed on an international playing field?

"Start with the basics", says Vicky Paine-Mantha, president of Healthware Technologies Inc., "such as building solid relationships and networking."

"Relationships are key", she said.

Healthware has teamed up with MedcomSoft. of Toronto, and Systems Xcellence, of Milton to sign two major "protocols of intention" (documents committing the parties to move ahead with a certain project) in the Philippines recently.ÿ Before it is over, the deal is expected to be worth more than $233 million.

The first phase of the PCHIN (Philippine Community Health information Network) project, including deployment to 1,863 hospitals and all participating payers in the Philippines, is planned for this spring and is worth an estimated $33.5 million.

"The second phase is worth $200 million and will include the connection of physicians, pharmacies, drug, stores, radiologists and laboratories in addition to pharmaceutical distributors.ÿ The combination of technologies developed by the companies allow the key health care stakeholders to collect information more efficiently and effectively, thus allowing for better patient care and diagnosis," said Paine-Mantha.

Healthware specializes in hospital clinical information., MedcomSoft deals in health information networks and Systems Xcellence is a leader in transaction processing software for both health care and electronic commerce application.

The signing is the culmination of an 18-month joint feasibility study.ÿ Things came together after a highly comprehensive and detailed survey of the health care information needs for all aspects of the health care sector in the Philippines, said Paine-Mantha.

Healthware will probably hire more staff both in Canada and in the Philippines, but at this stage she wasn't sure how many more.ÿ The software development company now employs 24 people full-time (20 of them in North Bay).
